“The marvellous success of the racing yachts designed and built by this firm is well known to all interested in yacht racing in all parts of the world”

Charles Sibbick and his Yachts

From 1888 to his death in 1912 Charles Sibbick designed and built more than 300 boats, almost all were one-off designs commissioned by Princes, the aristocracy, members of parliament and yachting cognoscenti in the UK, Europe and America. His Albert Yard in Cowes on the Isle of Wight employed over 50 people, and his yachts won many hundreds of races. His most famous customer was The Duke of York (later King George V), who ordered a yacht to be built in one week.
The book will be illustrated with period photographs of the yachts, plus letters and other correspondence from the period. There will also be lines plans and photographs of half models. Many of the photographs have not been published since they were taken. The book will also include a listing of all the boats he designed and built, with the year built, type, specification and owners names.
